Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
The second layer of the Divine Smart-Thinking Pyramid is “nobility”. Noble thoughts are thoughts above the standards of normal thinking. Noble thinkers are better, higher and more virtuous than normal people. The spiritual smart-thinking pyramid has the foundation of truth and is built with the bricks of noble thinking. Noble thinkers are quick to forgive. They respect and esteem others better than themselves. They don’t get even and don’t retaliate to their maligners. They do not lower their standards even in harsh circumstances. Noble thinkers repay good for evil and overcome malevolence with meekness. Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good (Romans 12:21).
The Nobel Prize is given to honour people who have done outstanding work in the areas of physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, peace, and economics. Alfred Noble had a vision of a better world and he created a prize that would reward people who were able to influence and improve society through knowledge, science and humanism. Not everyone gets the Nobel Prize but everyone can become noble thinkers to influence and improve the quality of life in our spiritual, social and secular spectrums. Leaders and politicians have to be noble thinkers to make a positive impact on society.
David was a noble thinker. David had an opportunity to kill King Saul twice. Saul mistreated David and pursued for several years to kill him but when David had an opportunity to murder Saul, he refused to touch the Lord’s anointed. But the Lord forbid that I should lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed. Now get the spear and water jug that are near his head, and let’s go” (1 Samuel 26:11). David refused to repay evil with evil but repaid evil with good! David esteemed Saul’s life and his office and refused to retaliate in revenge. David’s nobility attributed to his royalty.
Smart-Thinkers are Noble Thinkers:
1. Overlook: Noble Thinkers overlook offence. A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense (Proverbs 19:11). Hoarding offense will pollute the heart and destroy noble thoughts. Noble thinkers are quick to forgive.
2. Overcome: Noble Thinkers are considerate to everyone, even the mean, blunt and the astringent. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44). They are impartial and inconspicuous in their generosity and service. Noble Thinkers overcome evil with good.
3. Overset: Noble Thinkers set their standards above the standards of the world. They don’t say or do anything with a hidden agenda but their noble thoughts and actions are from the core godly values that they have set for themselves. Noble thinkers have higher standards than the standards of the world.
Noble Thinkers have higher, better and virtuous thoughts above the standards of the world.
2 Timothy 2:7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, refine my thinking and raise my standard of thinking to be higher than the standards of the world. May my thoughts be noble. Amen.
