14 November 2024 – Love Letter – Part 4

2 Timothy 3:15-17 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible is the antivirus software of the heart. It is the filter between our thoughts and the truth. It is the purifier that strains and separates our wants and God’s ways. Not every thought that drops in our heart is godly and holy. Our thoughts, wants and desires must be put through the filter of God’s Word to be validated. Any thought contrary to the Word of God is a lie from the devil. God’s Word will rebuke demonic deceptions.

God’s Word must be hidden in our heart to protect it from contamination. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23). The protective layer to the heart is the Word of God. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11). Sin or selfishness cannot penetrate the shield of God’s word. Wickedness or waywardness will not perforate our ways. Submission to God’s Word will fortify the heart with a defensive fortress of purity.

Joseph, the young handsome man, fled from sin as He had the filter of God’s Word protecting his thoughts, desires and wants. He refused to give-in to infidelity and said, “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God? (Genesis 39:9b). Joseph chose the narrow gate and the hard road and did not question God even when he was unlawfully imprisoned as his heart was protected by God’s Word.

God’s Word rebukes sin:

1.         Rebuke: The tempting demons cannot engage in a conversation with those who have God’s Word hidden in their heart. We will make no excuses to fall into sinful behaviour. There is no room for deliberation of engaging or entertaining anything that is not in conformity with the Word of God.

2.         Run: God’s Word hidden in our heart will help us to run from ugly thoughts, unwholesome words and waywardness. How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word (Psalm 119:9). Run from wrongdoing.

3.         Refuse: God’s Word is the filter and the anti-virus software of your heart. It filters filth and stops unholiness from entering our heart. God’s Word will warn us and give us ‘red-alerts’ to wrongness. Blindly refuse any pleasure, leisure or treasure that is against the Word of God. When the antivirus software of God’s Word is loaded in our heart, we will boldly declare that an illicit relationship is fornication and tax evasion is cheating. The Word of God will separate light from darkness and good from bad. God’s Word will rebuff evil.

The Bible is the antivirus filter of the heart that rebukes wickedness and waywardness. Never, never, never neglect it.

Psalm 119:104 Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

Prayer: Father in Heaven, I will hide your Word in my heart that I will not sin against thee. Amen.
