Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The Sovereign Lord is our divine counselor. He is always available for consultation and will never miss His appointments. He is an expert in resolving complex, demanding, daunting and difficult circumstances and He charges no consultation fees. Before we run to people or the phone we must rush to our prayer closet and consult our Counselor, the Holy Spirit. Discuss about everything and He will coach, guide and lead. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you (Psalm 32:8). Our Divine Counselor Jesus will instruct, teach and counsel. ‘Instructions’ are specific step by step directions. ‘Teaching’ would include imparting knowledge, skills to develop critical thinking and logical analysis. ‘Counseling’ is giving advisory guidance and emotional support. The Holy Spirit is the only all round counselor for all challenges, age groups and all circumstances.
The Sovereign Lord was the divine consultant of David. He taught David shepherding as a young lad and later the proficiency of a skillful warrior of Israel. The Lord God taught him the commandments and the mandate to good success. The Lord counseled David in distress. “I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place” (Psalm 118:5).The Holy Spirit who dwells in us is our divine Consultant (John 14:16).
His name is Counselor:
1. Instruct: The Holy Spirit will give us specific instructions and directions about our finances, fiancé and future. Wait for His instructions.
2. Teach: The Holy Spirit will teach and coach us. “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you” (John 14:26).
3. Counsel: The Holy Spirit is our emotional and spiritual guide. He will speak to you through the impression in your heart or through the Word of God or through the vocal cords of a good friend/pastor/prophet.
His name is Counselor. Be instructed, taught and counseled by the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, help me to be more aware of your presence than the people around me. Instruct, teach and counsel me. Amen.
