Mark 4:35 That day when evening came, He said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”
When Jesus says ‘Go’, GO. Many ask for signs and confirmations over and over again before they would move. It is not easy to step out of our comfort zone. The opportunity might be a stretch but as long as the Lord is part of the expedition, we will reach the other side, safely. The journey with Jesus would not always be smooth sailing; it might be stormy, scary and rocky but as long as Jesus is in our boat, there is safety.
After preaching all day by the lake, Jesus said to his disciple to set sail to the other side across the Sea of Galilee. To sail across the Sea of Galilee, it would have taken about 2 hours. As the wind blew and gently rocked the boat Jesus fell asleep in the stern of the boat. Soon the breeze turned into a baffling squall and the boat was nearly swamped. The terrified disciples woke up Jesus. Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves and the wind died down and it was completely calm (vs39b). Jesus then turned around and reprimanded the disciples “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (vs40).
Jesus calming the storm was the 12th miracle. The prior miracles that the disciples witnessed were others being healed, set free or delivered and believed that Jesus is the Messiah (John 2:11), however, when they were in a tight corner their faith had vanished. Fear of death, loss or hopelessness can cause spiritual bankruptcy. If Jesus says “let’s go”, we can be rest assured of our safety.
Get-set-Go:
1. Stormy: The storms of life cannot stop you. Fierce opposition, ruthless criticism or incantations can billow our boat, but we will not sink.
2. Shaky: The journey might be rocky, shaky and unsteady but the financial or emotional pressures will not topple us over us as long as Jesus is in our boat.
3. Safety: Jesus is our safety and surety in the storm. He will take us to the other side.
As long as Jesus is in our boat, 2025 will be a stress-free year of success and safety.
Prayer: Precious Jesus, help me to sail on and go forth without being intimidated by the storms. Amen.
