Acts 5:19-20 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”
“A picture speaks a thousand words”.
The apostles were arrested and placed in a public jail for preaching the Gospel. The Sanhedrin could not deny the truth that miracles were performed in the resurrected name of Jesus so they misused their authority and tried to silence the truth. However, a magnificent angel of the Lord walked right into the public jail and blinded the guards. He went straight to the cell where the apostles were locked, opened the doors of the jail without keys, and brought them out of the prison. Some apostles might have been praying, while others were sleeping or resting. Imagine the pleasant surprise and the twinkle in their eyes when the angel walked into the cell. In excitement they would have hushed and rushed out of the prison.
Then the angel gave them orders to continue their purpose and calling. They didn’t go home to refresh or rest. They went straight to the pulpit to preach! The angel did one other thing, as he brought the apostles out; he locked the door of the jail cell securely behind them. “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside” (vs 23).
The Lord God will send His angels into closed and locked doors, and deliver us from the trap and snare of the enemy.
Descriptive Bible glorifies God:
1. Shut: No influential authority or demonic power can stop us from fulfilling God’s sovereign purpose. So don’t be intimidated by evil or demonic power, authority or diabolical influence.
2. Silence: No law or legislation can silence the Gospel. They can persecute God’s children but they cannot stop the GoodNews.
3. Speak: No power on earth and no demon in hell can shut the door that the Lord has opened for us.
The descriptive Bible glorifies the ultimate authority of the Lord our God. Anyone or anything that comes against the purpose of God will be thwarted.
Prayer: Jesus my Saviour and My King, help me not to shy away from my purpose when I face opposition but to step forward in faith. Amen.
