Matthew 28:2: There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
“Picture speaks a thousand words”.
An x-ray view inside the tomb of Jesus on the day of resurrection would have been awesome. When Jesus was crucified, He was not only beaten blue and black on the outside but He would have died of collapsing lung, heart failure, brain and nerve damage, dehydration and suffocation. Almost every single internal organ would have been injured. So, when the Holy Spirit came upon Him, the tomb would have been illuminated with the resurrection power and His dead body would have started breathing! Jesus did not need an angel to open the tomb for Him. He had already walked out of the closed sepulchre while it was still closed. The angel came down in a violent earthquake and rolled the stone away just to tell the world that He has risen. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men (vs 4). Imagine the petrified face of the guards when the angel pushed the stone of the tomb with his little finger. See the fear and excitement on the faces of the women who came with the spices to the tomb.
Our God is alive. He is not dead in a tomb nor is He a statue in a temple. He will roll the stone and rattle the strongholds for His children. He will open doors that are shut with human hands and crumble walls that are built by hell against His children.
Bring the Scriptures alive as you read:
1. Hear: Hear the violent earthquake as you read the resurrection of Jesus and the metallic sound of the stone being rolled away. Hear the thundering voice of the angel speaking to the women in the garden.
2. See: Use your imagination to see the garden-graveyard and peep into the empty tomb of Jesus. See the scriptures through the eyes of your imagination.
3. Go: Walk into the Garden and walk the roads of Galilee, Bethany and Calvary.
Animate the scriptures to make indelible memories in your heart and mind.
Prayer: King Jesus, help me to hear, see and live the scriptures as I read them every day to leave lasting impressions in my heart. Amen.
