Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Intentionality is a deliberate and purposive mental state of actions, thoughts, desires, beliefs and hopes that are directed towards achieving a particular objective or goal.
We are under a spiritual attack when we are bombarded with fearful, depressing, and negative thoughts. When we lose our desire to pray or are tormented by an incident, insult or insinuation, we can be rest assured that the fiery darts of the evil one are aimed at us. The lies from the pit of hell would sound real and hopelessness will soon grip our hearts if we do not put on the full armor of God.
The attack could come from people but our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (vs 12b). Hence fighting a spiritual battle in the flesh is like signing up for defeat. It would be like entering into a battlefield without weapons, artillery or training. If our mind is attacked with foul, fiendish or filthy thoughts, then the helmet of salvation that gives us the calm assurance that we are God’s sons and daughters is missing. If we lose our peace over anyone or anything, we have forgotten to put on the shoes of peace. If guilt and condemnation is gripping our hearts, then the breastplate of righteousness is not in place and if we believe the lies of the whispering demons, the belt of truth is not fastened.
Put on the full armour of God:
1. Stand: We cannot sit or laze around with the full armour of God. We must stand ready to defend and defeat the evil one. Stand in the fighting position of fasting and prayer.
2. Shield: Faith is the defensive weapon that shields us from the doubts, disbeliefs and the fiery darts that are shot at us from hell. ‘The larger our shield, the stronger our protection; likewise, the greater our faith, the mightier our victory’.
3. Sword: The Word of God is the only weapon that will slice the head of the demons.
Be armed and dangerous.
Prayer: Jehovah Nissi, empower me to be alert to overthrow the attacks from hell. Amen.
