23 March 2025 – Seven Things that Displeases God – Part 5

Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Our God is a God of justice and truth. “For I the Lord love justice; I hate robbery and wrong” (Isaiah 61:8a). Twisting justice, staging lies as the truth, false witnesses, slander, spreading rumours, backbiting and spoiling the reputation of others are detestable to the Lord. Proverbs 6:16-18 talks about six things the Lord hates but the seventh is obnoxious to the Lord. A false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community (vs 18). Presumptive liars’ sow enmity and animosity, and gossipers sow discord among friends. Those who call evil good and good evil are opportunists and self-absorbed people who falsify the truth for their own selfish benefit. God hates it.

The Lord God sternly reprimanded Aaron and Miriam when they slandered about Moses. Envy drove the elder brother and sister to gossip about their baby brother Moses. They defamed Moses and trivialized his anointing in the camp of Israel. They devalued the relationship that Moses had with the Lord. But Moses remained silent; He did not justify or react however, the Lord who is the God of justice and truth heard it. He summoned the three siblings in the tent of the meeting and rebuked Aaron and Miriam.

God fights for His children. He will not watch unjust slander and injustice prevail over His children.

Injustice displeases Him:

1.         False: Don’t stress about false rumours and don’t try to justify. Remain silent. Be still and know that our God is mighty to save.

2.         Façade: God will rip open the façade of those who call good evil and evil good. “The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him” (Proverbs 11:1).

3.         Fight: God will only fight for us if we remain silent. If we retort on FB or in social media the Lord God will not be our advocate. Those who show partiality in judgement and call the guilty righteous will bring a curse upon themselves (Proverbs 24:23-24).

Injustice displeases God.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are a God of justice. Help me not to take justice into my hands but to wait for you to fight for me. Amen.
