Exodus 25:30 Put the bread of the Presence on this table to be before me at all times.
Another important duty of the priests was to prepare and present the bread on the golden Table of Showbread in the Holy Place. The bread was made of finest flour of approximately 3.12 kgs and stacked on the table. “Take the finest flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf. Arrange them in two stacks, six in each stack, on the table of pure gold before the Lord” (Leviticus 24:5-6). On the 12 loaves of baked bread, brushed with frankincense was placed on the golden table in the tabernacle “at all times”.
The showbread on the golden table is the “Goodnews” of the Gospel. A priest must always be prepared to share the goodnews, at all times. Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching (2 Timothy 4:2). As the showbread was brushed with frankincense meaning, the gospel must be presented with a sweet fragrance of love. Preaching without love and patience will not nourish the people and the gospel will not permeate into their hearts as sweet aroma. “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ, and who reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of him through us in every place” (2 Corinthians 2:14).
We are the royal priesthood of the Lord and it is our duty to present the gospel to the world with love (Mark 16:15-18).
The Priests are Preachers:
1. Goodnews: The gospel is good news not bad news. Goodness must be presented in a golden platter like silver apples. Preaching that threatens, coerces or condemns people is not the showbread from the golden table. They are stale bread that will spoil the soul.
2. Goodness: As it was the duty of the priests to present the fragranced bread, it is our responsibility to present the Living Bread to the people in our world.
3. Gift: Gospel is a gift. It cannot be sold.
We, the New Testaments believers, the royal priesthood, are anointed to present and preach the gospel with love.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, coach me to be the evangelist to the people in my world, my society and my workplace and share the gospel with love. Amen.
