Matthew 13:12 For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
When we accept the Lord Jesus and open our hearts to Him, the Spirit of God comes to reside in our spirit. With the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the “Nature of God” is deposited as seeds in our spirit. The facets of the fruit of the spirit, (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control), are deposited in our spirit as seeds. These divine deposits must be watered, nurtured and protected for it to sprout, bud and bear fruits.
Our heart is like a garden. Once Jesus becomes the gardener of our garden, He will start uprooting weeds, tares and toxic trees and will start planting seeds of godliness. We don’t become like Jesus the moment we accept Him as a Lord and Saviour. The divine seed deposits cannot be locked-up in the barn of our heart. The old nature must be uprooted and the divine seeds must be planted. This is why Jesus said in the verse above, to the one who has, more will be given. As we plant the divine seeds of faith and godliness, they will grow and produce fruits. There is an orchid in one seed. The seeds planted produce abundance.
Our cooperation with the divine Gardener Jesus will cultivate the divine deposits/seeds into sumptuous fruits.
Grow the Divine Deposits:
1. Plant: As long as the seeds are in the spirit as divine deposits it will not grow. We must intentionally plant the divine deposits of godliness in the garden of our heart. Extending love to the unlovable critic and patience to the complainer will nurture the divine seeds.
2. Pull: Tares and toxic plants will kill the godly nature. Bitterness and love cannot co-exist in the heart. There is no bitter-sweet fruit in God’s garden. Soon bitterness will overpower the sweetness of love.
3. Persist: Some seeds take longer than others such as “patience”, “gentleness” and “peace”. Persist and grow the divine seeds.
Divine seeds of God’s nature must be planted, watered and nurtured. If not they will remain as deposits and cannot produce fruits.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, be the gardener of my heart and help me to grow an orchid of godliness. Amen
