Matthew 13:12 For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
God has given each one of us a measure of faith. God has allotted to each a measure of faith (Romans 12:3b). The seeds of faith deposited in us must be invested. Faith-seeds in the locker do not grow. It must be put to use. The storms of life develop faith and crisis produces the fruit of faith. The problems we face and the perils we overcome are conduits to enlarge faith. Rather than fainting in the time of trouble we must exercise the muscle of faith. As weights strengthen our muscles, so does the weightiness of difficult circumstances fortify our faith.
In the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30), Jesus said that the master rebuked the man who received one bag of gold, but hid the gold in the ground. The man did not use the gift that was given to him. The master called him “wicked and lazy servant”. Those who fail to trust God but choose the easy path of comfort and pleasure will be categorized as ‘wicked’. Faith that is not exercised will eventually weaken and wither away, faith must be put to use.
Exercise Faith and Grow the muscle of Faith:
1. Given: Everyone has deposits of faith like seeds in our heart. When we face challenges, criticism or health conditions, don’t faint; sow and grow faith.
2. Grown: Praying, fasting and feasting on scriptures cultivate faith. Fast about a problem, then wait silently at the feet of the Lord for your faith to be activated. The Lord will drop a verse or a word in your heart/spirit which will germinate the seed of faith.
3. Gut: Head faith is the knowledge about God. Heart faith personalizes the promises of God and believes that God will fulfill them but Gut faith is the unshakable trust that God’s got this!
Faith that is not exercised is like an unused muscle – it will weaken; so, sow, grow and exercise the seeds of faith.
Head faith – knows God; Heart faith – trusts God but Gut faith – rests on God.
Prayer: Father God, I will invest the seeds of faith in me. Let my faith move from the head to my gut. Amen
