Matthew 3:11 “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
Fire can be incredibly useful but also insanely dangerous and destructive. Fire is a process. It is a chemical combustion of fuel, oxygen and heat; it is not a thing or a substance.
John the Baptist prophesied about Jesus and said that He will baptize us with the Holy Spirit and fire. This means anointing has two facets – the “power” of the Holy Spirit and the “fire” of His presence. Our God is a “consuming fire”. “For our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29). Consuming fire is a powerful bible metaphor that describes the sublime Holiness, Majesty and Supremacy of our All-Mighty God.
Moses had an encounter with the All-Powerful Holy God at the burning bush. The Lord told Him not to come near the fire as Moses was standing on holy ground before the Holy Father. The fire of His presence is holy and awesome. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up (Exodus 3:2). The fire of God’s presence did not burn the bush down but the encounter with the holy fire of God’s presence completely consumed the fear, ego and shame of Moses. Science tells us that fire can double in size every 30-60 seconds. Similarly, one encounter with the Holy Fire can propel our passion and purpose to divine heights. The bushfire transformed the life of Moses.
The Bushfire Encounter:
1. Purpose: Moses found his purpose when he came under the fire of the burning bush. The fire anointing is absolutely essential to find and fine-tune our purpose. We must seek the fire anointing to understand our purpose, and desire the fire anointing to burn down shame, stigma and sin.
2. Passion: The fire anointing was on Moses throughout the exodus and anointed him with passion to become the pastor and prophet of Hebrew slaves. The fire anointing will ignite us with passion and perseverance.
3. Purity: The consuming fire purifies us to live our purpose passionately.
The fire anointing purifies us from unholiness to live passionately and purposefully.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, let your holy fire fall on me to transform my passion and my purpose. Amen.
