Judges 6:21 Then the angel of the Lord touched the meat and the unleavened bread with the tip of the staff that was in his hand. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the Lord disappeared.
Volcanic eruptions of hot molten lava and volcanic ashes at a very high temperature and speed can cause fire when it falls on dry vegetation or flammable materials. This metaphor is a picture of the fire of God in our heart that is ignited by the Holy Spirit. The presence and power of God burns as holy fire in our innermost being.
Gideon wanted a sign to believe that it was not his wild imagination but that it was the angel of the Lord who was speaking to him. So he brought meat, bread and broth, and left it on the rock. The angel touched the rock with the tip of his staff and fire flared from the rock and consumed the fellowship offering. What a sight it must have been! The Holy Fire that burns in our heart is a sign and a confirmation that God has spoken to us. This fire is not an emotional spurt but a passion that cannot be shaken away. The ardour will burn until the vision is accomplished.
To experience the ignition of this holy fire in our heart, we must have ‘fellowship’ with the Lord and must come to Him with a ‘fellowship offering’. Passionately seeking the presence of the Lord in prayer, praise, worship, thanksgiving and fasting, is the “fellowship offering/sacrifice” that will inflame the holy fire in us.
Burn with Holy Fire:
1. Sign: Gideon prayed, “If now I have found favour in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me” (vs 17). God speaks through signs and symbols.
2. Scripture: God’s Word will burn in us like fire as we seek Him with ardent love, 100% attention and total submission.
3. Success: The fire flared from the rock and stirred a holy fire in the heart of a weak wimp and turned him into a warrior. The holy fire helped Gideon to succeed and accomplish his purpose.
The holy fire transforms our heart and empowers us to succeed.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, kindle the holy fire in me and energize me to fulfill your purpose. Amen.
