John 21:9-10 When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.”
Disappointed and disillusioned by the death of Jesus on the cross, Peter went back to his old profession – fishing. Thomas, Nathanael, James, John, and two other disciples joined Peter as he ventured back into the Sea of Tiberias. In the most disheartened state, Jesus met His disciples for the third time. The boat, as well as the hearts of the disciples, was empty. They toiled all night but caught nothing until Jesus intervened. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish (vs 6). The big catch made Peter realize that it was Jesus calling out to them from the shores of Galilee.
When they rushed back to the beach Jesus had a barbeque going. They saw a fire of burning coals and fish and bread. Brunch was ready for them on the beach! Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught” (vs 10). The visitation of Jesus turned the darkness into brilliant light.
Jesus lovingly reinvigorated the fire and fervency to serve Him when they had hit the rock bottom.
The Unquenchable Fire:
1. Favour: Go to the table that Jesus has prepared when you are despondent and downcast. When we hit rock bottom, the safest place to turn is our prayer closet. Jesus will accept us, enlighten us and refresh us with His favour.
2. Food: There is always food for us at God’s table. He did not reprimand them but served them hot food and strengthened their body and their soul.
3. Fire: Jesus will meet us where we are and revive the fire and fervency that have died down by distress. His thoughts are always way higher and His way much better than ours. He has an unquenchable fire of coal burning with food for our soul. He will meet us at our lowest point and revitalize our spirit.
Go to the table of God, there is favour, fresh food and holy fire.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, please reinvigorate the fire and fervency to love and serve You always. Amen.
