Exodus 14:13, Moses tells the Israelites, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again”.
The miracle-minded are calm-spirited. They do not fret, do not panic and will not break under pressure. They put on the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. The miracle-minded are still and courageous as their hope stands unshakable under stress. The messy-minded on the other hand are clamorous-spirited. They are anxious, distressed and disorderly. Courage fades away under stress and fear grips their heart.
The tyrant, Pharaoh, chasing the hoard of Hebrew slaves with his choicest chariots would have been a dreadful sight. The people were hemmed between the Red Sea and the Pharaoh’s army. The crowd would have gone ballistic in fear. They went storming at Moses and accused him of bringing them into the desert to die. Their mind was messy so their reaction was boisterous. But Moses on the other hand gave them a calm reply, “Be Still and see the deliverance of the Lord”. Both Moses and the people were under the same predicament, yet Moses was calm and the people were clamorous.
Moses was miracle-minded and confident but the people were messy-minded and petrified. The calm-spirit comes from the confidence that we have in the Lord. The miracle-minded see the might of God not the monstrous peril. A messy-mind is foggy and cloudy to see the miracle working power of God. Hence is panic-stricken.
Miracle-Minded Habits:
1. Calm-spirit: The calm-spirit wears the unfading beauty of gentleness and quietness/calmness. It is an admirable inner beauty and is of great worth to the Lord (1 Peter 3:4).
2. Clamorous-spirit: A clamorous-spirit is confused and impatient. Clamorous-spirit is restless like an empty vessel – it makes loud noises. A clamorous-spirit would push people into imaginary fear and depression.
3. Courageous-spirit: Courage and confidence only comes from trusting the Lord. Moses knew that the Lord would not abandon them in the middle of nowhere to be massacred by the tormentor. He was confident that God would make a way over or under the waterbed.
The Miracle-Minded put on a calm-spirit of gentleness and quietness and courageously wait for the Lord.
Prayer: Dear Lord, remind me to adorn myself with the unfading beauty of calmness, gentleness and meekness to be miracle-minded. Amen.
