28 May 2025 – Divine Covenant – Part 1

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him.

“A divine covenant is an agreement or a contract between the Lord and His people.”

There are several such covenants that the Lord God has made with those who love and serve Him. A covenant is a two way agreement. Divine covenants are God’s promises to those who are committed to obey His commandments and follow Him wholeheartedly. A covenant starts with an “if condition”. The divine covenant becomes a legal document when our commitment/condition is fulfilled.

Divine covenants are not governed by earthly laws but by Biblical standards. The distinguishing factor about ‘Divine Covenants’ is that it activates only when the conditions are fulfilled. We approach God with ‘prayer’ and ‘petitions’. While “prayer” is the expression of our desires, needs and wants, “petitions” are promises that invoke divine covenants.

God loves us irrespective of who we are or what we’ve done. Nothing that we do or say can change, His love for us. His love for humanity took Him to the cross but the covenant of love is the title deed to divine blessings. God loves everyone unconditionally but His hands are tied to bless those who live in disobedience. Rebellion gives freedom to the demonic marauders to steal, kill and destroy.

Live under the canopy of the Covenant of Love.

Covenant of Love:

1.         Unmerited: The condition to unmerited favour is obedience. We will be blessed with unmerited favour of God and underserved blessings will follow those who walk faithfully before the Lord God.

2.         Unexpected: Unexpected blessings follow those who unassumingly love and obey Him. David did not worship the Lord in the wilderness expecting God to anoint him as the next king of Israel. Rather David’s love for God attracted unexpected promotion.

3.         Unforgotten: God’s grace will remain on the bloodline of the obedient for a thousand generations. God promised David that his generation will remain on the throne forever (2 Samuel 7:16). Jesus, the King of kings, was born in the lineage of David exactly 1000 years later.

God will be faithful to His covenant of love for 1000 generations!

Prayer: Father God, I commit to fulfill the conditions of the ‘Covenant of Love’  and to be obedient to your Word. Amen.
