Jude 3 Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.
“Faith believes that God will do what He says He will.”
Faith is a journey. “The Faith Journey” will have seasons. There will be bright summer days and beautiful spring seasons but there will also be dull autumn days and cold winter seasons. During the tough and rough seasons we must fight for our faith. Faith is a contentious journey that develops the fruit of faithfulness.
Faith will be challenged by the changing circumstances. We would have to pass through the flooded rivers but firm faith cruises through the flashfloods. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you (Isaiah 43:2a). Steadfast faith will journey through the waters without becoming overwhelmed and exasperated. We would have to walk through the fire, but unwavering faith will declare that furious flames will not touch them. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze (Isaiah 43:2b). Fervent faith will fear no fire or furnace. The flashfloods and the fire fortify our faith.
Difficult circumstances will challenge our faith but we must defeat doubt and fear that cripples faith with the Word of God. Faith is built by hearing and repeating the Word of God. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Hence it is important to read the scriptures aloud and contend our faith by proclaiming the promises of God – aloud.
The Faith Bubble:
1. Water: Faith goes through the “water-test” but steadfast faith will walk on water. The flashfloods cannot drown steadfast faith.
2. Wilderness: Faith will be tested by the uncertainty and dryness in the wilderness, but resolute faith will be fed by the manna from heaven and water from the rock.
3. War: Faith will face war. But courageous faith knows that the Great Warrior is going before them and will overthrow the enemy.
Faith is a journey.
Prayer: Father God, in this journey of faith, give me the tenacity to pass the ‘water-test’, ‘wilderness-test’ and the ‘war’ victoriously. Amen.
