14 June 2025 – Convictions and Conversations – Part 4

John 21:3 Peter told them, “I’m going fishing.” And they all replied, “We’ll go with you.”

“God sees our heart and hears our conversations”

The resurrected Saviour, Jesus, heard the frustration, fear and desperation in the conversation of the disciples. They chose to go back to their previous profession and lifestyle. Their vision to change the world and their ambition to overthrow the Romans regime was dissipated when Jesus died on the cross. Not knowing how to handle the disappointment, they chose to keep themselves busy. Jesus met the disciples who had gone back to fishing and reinstalled them to accomplish their calling. “For the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 29:11). Cleopas, one of the followers of Jesus, left Jerusalem and returned back to his hometown with another unnamed disciple, (presumably his wife). They were talking with each other about everything that had happened (Luke 24:14) and Jesus joined the conversation. The conviction of the disciples and their expectations disappeared into thin air when Jesus was crucified. Jesus heard their frustration and healed their pain.

There are some challenges in life that would be very difficult to understand scripturally. It would be extremely confusing to make any Biblical sense of the test. Such disappointments can even shake the core of our convictions and our faith. Jesus hears everything that we say. He will meet us at our point of desperation and instill hope, purpose and new beginnings.

Convictions and conversations:

1.         Sigh: The Lord God hears our cries, sighs and groans. We will not drown in the flood of frustration. He will lift us out of the despondency and give us a new beginning.

2.         Sense: When the trial does not make sense, stop analyzing and trying to find a reason for the test. Time will reveal the truth. Just believe that the God of love will never permit anything that we cannot handle. Pain makes us powerful when we continue to trust Him.

3.         Speak: The Holy Spirit will speak to anyone who is willing to listen. Tune in to listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit who speaks to us as impressions in our heart.

The Lord listens to our frustrations and fears and will reignite hope and purpose.

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, when I am upset, hopeless and frustrated, I will run into your arms. Amen.
