1 Samuel 17:49 As the Philistine/(Goliath, the Giant), moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.
Strong legs play a vital role in improving cardiovascular health, metabolic function, and even potentially cognitive health. Similarly, strong spiritual legs of faith bolster our heart with courage to face and overthrow the giant.
When the 9-foot giant Goliath spewed threats and blasphemed God, the warriors of Israel ran into hiding. His appearance, his garrulous voice and ginormous size was nerve-wrecking even to the skilled and armed military and yet, a teenage shepherd boy, whose ‘legs of faith’ was taller than the 9-foot giant, challenged him and knocked him down. David retorted to the mocking giant that God will deliver him into his hands and that David will feed the carcass of not only the giant but also the whole Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals! The legs of faith of the teenage shepherd boy grew taller than the 9-foot giant as he confessed his faith and put his trust in the Lord God Almighty.
Our legs of faith will grow strong and tall, taller than the 9-foot giant, when we feed on the truth, the Word of God. David knew his scriptures and he knew His God. He believed every word from the Book of the Law, verbatim. He did not doubt, hence he did not duck in fear or dodge the fight. He faced the giant and overpowered him.
We cannot subdue the giants we face with feeble faith. Our legs of faith must grow taller than the giants of fear, financial crisis or family issues.
Legs of Faith:
1. Frail: Fear makes our feet stumble and the legs of faith, frail. Fear+Doubt=Worry. If we are thinking about the problem continuously, it is negative meditation called “worry”. Fear, doubt and worry weaken our faith.
2. Fictitious: Doubt in our heart will make our faith fictitious. Fake faith will fail us in times of trouble.
3. Fearsome: The ‘legs of faith’ of a child of God that is taller than the dreadful giants is a fearsome faith that threatens hell.
“Our legs of faith must grow taller than the ferocious giants and conquer them.”
Prayer: Father God, help me to defeat fear, grow the legs of faith to stand taller than the overwhelming problems and subdue them. Amen.
