29 June 2025 – The Power of One – Part 5

2 Samuel 20:16,19 & 21b A wise woman called from the city, “Listen! Listen! Tell Joab to come here so I can speak to him.” We are the peaceful and faithful in Israel….You are trying to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the Lord’s inheritance?”…The woman said to Joab, “His head will be thrown to you from the wall.”

“One Woman’s Wisdom Saved a City”

Wisdom is more valuable than wealth. Wisdom attracts honour, respect and promotion. Wisdom gains wealth, health and a long life. Wisdom defeats warriors. So, what is wisdom? Application of knowledge is wisdom. Wisdom is walking in the fear of the Lord and practicing the precepts of the Word of God. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10). Wisdom is saying no to sin. Choosing patience over agitation is wisdom. A person’s wisdom yields patience (Proverbs 19:11). Wisdom uproots the root cause whereas foolish aggravates the symptoms. A calm and quiet soul that seeks the direction of the Lord is led by wisdom.

The city, Abel Beth Maakah, was in trouble. There was a criminal and a rebel hiding in the city; so Joab, the commander in Chief of David, laid siege on the city and was battering the wall down. While the city was in turmoil, there was one wise woman who called to the commander and spoke words of wisdom. The calm conversation and the wisdom of this ONE woman saved the city.

Seek the wisdom of God in the trial, trouble and the tornado before plunging into action. “Do not react in resentment but respond in wisdom.”

The wisdom of ONE man/woman can save their family, fortune and future. The wisdom of ONE man/woman can make a difference to their community, city and country.

The Power of ONE:

1.         React: Reacting in agitation is foolish but the wise have control over their emotions. Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end (Proverbs 29:11).

2.         Respond: Take a deep breath before spilling out words; stop and think before giving your opinion or judgement.

3.         Reverse: Wisdom will reverse what foolishness damages.

“ONE man/woman’s wisdom will make a difference”.

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, let me be the man/woman who responds in wisdom. Help me to make a difference. Amen.
