Colossians 2:14-15 Having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
Above All Spiritual Indebtedness
Spiritual indebtedness made us slaves to satan. Through the power of the cross, Jesus cancelled all our sin and spiritual indebtedness and has liberated us from the clutches of the evil one.
The borrower is a slave to the lender. It was the ancient Middle Eastern custom to nail a bill of debt on the door of the defaulted borrower. The defaulted amount was normally written on a metal plate and fixed on the door of the borrower to subject them to public shame. Similarly, satan constantly prods us about our past sins and traps us in guilt and condemnation. (Don’t repeat the sins of the past (yours/others) and become an agent of the devil). Jesus redeemed us from spiritual indebtedness.
Jesus took our adamant repeated transgressions and iniquities and not only nailed it to the cross but paid a ransom with His precious blood to redeem us. Now, the devil has no legal grounds to accuse us in the court of heaven. Jesus has annulled all demonic accusations and exterminated satan from the heavenly court (Revelation 12:11b).
The cross and the blood of Jesus have liberated us from all spiritual indebtedness.
Above All Spiritual Indebtedness:
1. Bondages: We are no more under the bondage of addictions, witchcraft or curses. Jesus ripped the certificate of bondage to sinful nature and satan and nailed it to the cross.
2. Brokenness: The devil uses our weakness as a weapon to wound us. The same demon that tempts a person to lie and lust will also accuse and condemn. Jesus snatched the weapons of shame and condemnation from the devil and heals our brokenness with His blood.
3. Blindness: The devil thrives on our spiritual blindness but Christ has enlightened us with the truth. Our spiritual debt that cannot be repaid through human effort has been ransomed with His blood.
We are above all spiritual bondages, brokenness and blindness through the power of the Cross.
Prayer: Jesus my Saviour, thank you for setting me free from the heavy burden of spiritual indebtedness through the power of the cross. Amen.
