Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it,”
Our heart is like our safety locker where priceless valuables are stored. Our inner convictions—faith, values, and beliefs—spring from the heart. The thoughts and motives shape the actions and the character of a person. The thoughts we meditate become the spiritual deposits in the heart that spin into moral fiber. Hence the heart must be protected from doubt, anger, animosity, pride, envy, bitterness, lust, rejection and the like. Thoughts of low self-esteem, insecurity and rejection will break the heart. One bad incident can ruin the rest of our life and push us into depression if we do not guard the inner thoughts of our heart.
David was rejected by his master and his king who was also his father-in-law. David was the Commander-in-Chief of King Saul and his military power and popularity exceeded all others in the kingdom. He became greater and greater as the Lord Almighty was with him. Hence the envious king hated and rejected him. When David was rejected by King Saul he went to the priests to arm himself with weapons. The priest replied, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here…If you want it, take it; there is no sword here but that one.” David said, “There is none like it; give it to me” (1 Samuel 21:9). The very first thing that David did when he was rejected was to look for a weapon to defend himself. David strapped himself with the sword of Goliath.
The Word of God is the spiritual armory that will protect and defend us when we are attacked with rejection. There is none like the Word of God that destroys the ugliness of rejection.
Guard Your Heart from Rejection:
1. Receive: Step 1 – seek the Lord for a verse that will heal the pain of rejection.
2. Remove: Step 2 – erase the harsh words of people by repeating the healing scriptures.
3. Replace: Step 3 – replace the words of rejection with purpose and vision. Purposeful living leaves no room to dwell on hateful or envious rejection.
A heart that is full of the promises of God and divine purpose has no room for rejection.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, alert me to guard my heart from rejections, rebuffs and refusals. Amen.
