2 Samuel 3:1 The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
“A good fight is a winning fight.”
The most skillful, strategic and the strongest will win in the battle. Even after David was crowned as king over Judah there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David. There was brutal bloodshed before David became the king over all of Israel. This is a perfect typology of our Christian walk.
Even after we surrender our lives to Jesus, there is a continuous rapacious war in our soul between ‘righteousness’ and ‘wrongness’. Paul talks about the continuous struggle between good and evil in us. Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being (heart) I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind (soul) and making me a prisoner (slave) of the law of sin at work within me (Romans 7:21-23). The fox we feed becomes stronger and stronger and the fox we starve becomes weaker and weaker.
We would have to fight the good fight against sin and temptation as long as we live on the earth. For example, if we are hot-headed and have a short fuse, we must hide scriptures in our heart to overcome irritability and moodiness. Don’t ruminate on insults or hurts. Starve the thoughts of rejection and frustration by replacing it with a delightful hobby such as singing, reading or running.
In the good fight, weakness, wile and wrongness can be defeated only by drawing strength and wisdom from the Word of God.
Good Fight:
1. Starve: Starve ugly thoughts by capturing and surrendering them to the Lord at once. Apply the blood of Jesus on the loathsome memory or the imagination and erase them.
2. Store: The Word of God is our spiritual weapon. Store God’s Word in your heart.
3. Strongholds: Build good and godly habits such as memorizing and repeating scriptures to breakdown the demonic strongholds.
Starve fiendish thoughts, feed your soul with scriptures and store the Word of God Word in your heart.
Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, anoint me with the power to defeat and annihilate the wicked wolves that war in my mind. Amen.
