2 Kings 11:10 The priest supplied them with the spears and small shields that had once belonged to King David and were stored in the Temple of the LORD.
The Bible records a very dark virulent queen, Athaliah who ruled Judah for six years. She was the daughter of the perverted king of Israel, Ahab and his idolatrous wife Jezebel. So, the king of Judah and the king of Israel were related through marriage. Hence, worship of idols and perversion, like sexually transmitted disease, had penetrated into the kingdom of Judah, (the family of David). The High Priest Jehoiada summoned the commander in chief with three companies of soldiers (about 250 soldiers per company) and supplied to them the spears and shields that King David had stored in the Temple of the Lord. They overthrew the wicked queen and crowned Prince Joash, as king, in her place. The weapons that King David, the great-great-great-grandfather had stored for them were used by his generation almost 129 years after his death!
The example of King David is a beautiful analogy of the spiritual weapons that we must store-up for our next generation. The days ahead are evil and it is getting darker by the day. The devil knows that his end is near and is prowling to steal, kill and destroy as many as he can. Hence, it is very important that we accumulate spiritual weapons and fill the ‘family-armory’ with spears, shields and swords for our next generation to defeat and overthrow perversions, addictions and demonic insurrection.
The inheritance that we leave for our next generation must not stop with land, shares and bank balances but righteousness, goodness and anointing.
Storehouse of Spiritual Arsenals:
1. Spears: Leave a record of personal miracles and wonders to boost the faith of the next generation. Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the LORD (Psalm 102:18).
2. Shields: Our righteous lifestyle not only blesses us but protects our future generation from bloodline curses. The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever (Psalm 37:18).
3. Swords: Leave an inheritance of sharpened swords of promises and prophecies for your children’s children.
Amass spiritual armory for the next generation.
Prayer: God my Father, I will store-up spiritual weapons for my future generation so that they may always remain in your presence. Amen.
