Isaiah 51:3 The LORD will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden.
“Le Rêve” means ‘The Dream’ in French. In the year 2006, Steve Wynn, the owner of the painting, due to his poor eyesight, accidentally punctured the painting with his elbow and caused a visible tear. Before the unfortunate incident he had a contract to sell the painting for $139 million but this sale deed fell through because of the damage. However, it was restored by an unnamed “art surgeon” for $90,000. After the restoration, “Le Rêve” was sold to Steven Cohen for $155 million.
Le Rêve is still spoken about because it was recovered by the Art Surgeon. If Wynn had put the painting aside there would be no Le Rêve in the Art gallery. The restoration made it more valuable than before. No one could see the synthetic threads that ran behind the tear on the canvas or the paint over the tear blended with the rest of the colours. Such was the meticulous hands of the “Art Surgeon”.
Unlike the Le Rêve, God’s restoration plan does not even leave a trace of the repair. The scar or blemish of our past mess or mistakes will not be noticed or seen when God restores our life. The life of the Apostle Paul, who was once Saul the assassin, was repaired, renewed and restored without a spot or a speckle. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief (1 Timothy 1:13). God’s grace will turn the desert into a flourishing garden and His mercy will turn the barrenness with fruitfulness.
Le Rêve:
1. Repair: The soft touch of the Divine Art Surgeon will repair every area we are hurt and damaged. He will touch our injured emotions, discombobulated mind and broken body.
2. Restore: The redeeming grace and mercy of God will restore all that we have lost in double measure.
3. Renew: He will renew our minds and make us more valuable than we were before being damaged by sin and shame.
We are renewed as good as new by the Divine Art Surgeon.
Prayer: Father God, I need your gentle touch to restore my brokenness and turn them into blessings. Amen.
