Matthew 25:16-17 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more.
In God’s economy “clocks, calendar and calculators” start and stop at God’s command.
God’s calculator has a key labeled “double” that doubles our efforts and endeavors. The Lord rewards hard work, and integrity. High return investments could be about 10%, but God’s calculator has a button that yields 100% returns.
Jesus explains the way the “divine calculator” works in the “The Parable of the Bags of Gold”. Three servants were entrusted a certain amount of money; probably based on their past track record. The first servant received 5 bags of gold, the second 2 bags and the third 1 bag. The Master returned after a period of time and the first servant brought back 10 bags, the second brought back 4 bags but the third servant did not invest his money bag but buried it. Hence he brought back the 1 bag of gold. The Master appreciated the first two as “good and faithful” but the third man was criticized as “wicked and lazy servant”.
God’s calculator starts working only when we put our hands to the plough. Dedication and perseverance will activate the “doubling key” in God’s calculator. “Do what your hand finds to do, for God is with you” (1 Samuel 10:7b). When we give our 100%, God’s contribution will also be 100%, which makes the return 200%. “Use it or lose it”.
Clocks, Calendar & Calculators:
1. Skill: The skillful and diligent attract the attention of heaven. The first two servants would have proved to be skillful and meticulous so they were not only entrusted with larger portions and were also blessed by doubling their income. The skillful and integrous receive a higher % of increment.
2. Sincerity: Sincerity pushes the promotion button on God’s Calculator.
3. Success: Diligence+Devotion=Success. Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank (Proverbs 22:29).
“Use it or lose it”.
Those who are good and skillful, and sincere and diligent, activate the double blessing button on God’s calculator.
Prayer: My Divine Providence, guide me to use my talents and efforts to activate the divine double button on your calculator. Amen.
