1 Samuel 17:43-44 He(Goliath) said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”.
“The spirit of Goliath”
The first step to victory in spiritual warfare is to recognize the spirit that is attacking us. The person who is tormenting, persecuting and inflicting pain is only a puppet in the hands of the evil spirit that controls them. So, attack the demon inside the person to deflate the puppet. Our battle is with the fiendish army not with the flesh.
Beware of the spirit of Goliath that is prevalent even today. This is a blasphemous and a slanderous spirit that crushes our faith with fear, intimidation and disparagement. This spirit mocks our faith, belittles the trust and ridicules our spiritual grounding.
Goliath attacked the morale and broke the confidence of the army of Israel with his derogatory words (vs 10a). His ‘slandering scheme’ worked with Saul and his army but not with David. David knew the truth that Goliath was not fighting with him but against the Lord of Hosts. Goliath was the giant that people saw but he was possessed and controlled by the gods he worshipped – Dagon, Ashtoreth and Baal-Zebub. Goliath fell facedown before David and the Lord of Hosts just as the Dagon that fell facedown before the Ark of the Lord (1 Samuel 5:4). David chopped the head of the giant with his own weapon (vs 51), just as the head and hands of the Dagon broke before the Ark on its own.
The spirit of Goliath attacks with defamatory words. Take authority over the spirit of Goliath. The spine of the slanderous spirit will break and fall facedown before King Jesus.
The Mocking Spirit:
- Slander: Recognize that slur comes from the spirit of Goliath to crush our confidence and destroy our courage.
- Speak: Speak to the spirit and address the mockery. David answered back that he will feed not only Goliath but the entire Philistine army to the birds and wild animals. Answer the demon specifically and authoritatively.
- Slay: Slay the giant with the Word of God.
“The spirit of Goliath will fall facedown to the name of Jesus”.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, equip me to slay the slandering giant. Amen.
