1 Samuel 28:5&20 When Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled his heart. Saul quickly fell full length on the ground and was very afraid because of Samuel’s words. He was completely drained of energy, having not eaten anything all that day and night.
“The spirit of fear”
Spirit of fear is a tormenting spirit. In a spiritual attack, the first attack is on our mind. Fear is the fiery dart from hell that creates a crevice for dread, disease or deficit to creep in. The spirit of fear intrudes unwelcomed and controls our thinking and talking. Fear blurs our spiritual vision to the promises and the power of God. Then, it insinuates our thinking with anxiety and torment, and tempts us to confess the fearful thoughts. The demonic realm has no power over us until we speak and confess negative, pessimistic and fearful words. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love (1 John 4:18).
The first arrow that hit Saul was fear which then poisoned and filled the heart with dread. Fear drained all his energy and Saul was defeated even before he stepped into the battlefield. The same pattern repeats every time we are struck with the poisonous sting of fear.
The spirit of stupor accompanies the spirit of fear. This is why when we panic we are not able to think and rush to make silly and irrational decisions. The spirit of fear is a person without body hence it has a mouth, it is malicious and its words have momentum.
The spirit of fear:
- Mouth: The spirit of fear has a garrulous mouth and will give suggestions even when we don’t seek advice. It does not stop talking to those who give it a listening ear. Shut the mouth of fear by speaking faith.
- Momentum: Fearful thoughts take momentum and will start controlling our words and actions. Apprehensive thoughts grow and fill the mind with dread and doom if we regurgitate and ruminate on them.
- Malice: The spirit of fear is malicious and will destroy our God-given destiny.
“Quench the fiery darts of fear by lifting up the shield of faith”.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to resist fear with power, love and sound mind. Amen.
