14 December 2025 – Unanswered Prayers – Part 5

1 Kings 19:4 He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”

Unscriptural prayers will not be heard or answered. Elijah was a powerful man of God but when he was intimidated by the threat of the adulterous queen Jezebel he prayed unscriptural prayers. Fear and frustration made him throw in the towel. God in His grace shuts His ears to unscriptural prayers.

Elijah prayed a quick 60 seconds prayer and fire fell from heaven and consumed the offering on Mt. Carmel. On the contrary, the false prophets of Baal and Ashteroth prayed from morning 9am to 3pm crying, shouting and cutting themselves but the demons were arrested by the fire in the man of God Elijah. But within 24 hours after the mighty miraculous outpouring of God’s power, Elijah received a death notice from the witch, Jezebel, and he quivered and in frustration prayed an unscriptural prayer – “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors”. When terror gripped Elijah’s heart he forgot that the fire in him was more powerful than the fire of hell.

Fear or dread, anger or agitation, frustration or disappointment will insinuate unscriptural prayers. It will make us forget that the fire in us is much more powerful than the fire in hell. Our prayers must align with the Word of God about trouble or the troublemakers.

Refrain from unscriptural thoughts and prayers:

  1. End: When overwhelmed with fear or terror, zip your lips tightly. Do not follow Elijah’s example.
  2. Exasperate: When exasperated, irritated and annoyed don’t let unwholesome vocabulary and expressions slip out. Gulp a glass of water to swallow the unscriptural vexing frustrations.
  3. Entreat: Do not beg and plead when you pray. We are the King’s kids. Exercise your authority; receive and enjoy God’s blessings. The spiritual law in conditional promises is automatically invoked when we live in alignment with God’s Word. The key to success is Joshua 1:8; the secret to healing in 1 Peter 2:24.

Angels ignore and do not collect unscriptural prayers in the golden bowl of incense.

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to zip my lips when I am intimidated, overwhelmed with anger or afraid. Teach me to pray in alignment with the Word of God.  Amen
