Psalm 50:23 “Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless I will show my salvation.”
‘Thanksgiving Offering’ regulations are delineated in Leviticus 7:11-15 as an “expression of thankfulness” to the Lord for His providence and deliverance. It is a voluntary peace offering which includes a fellowship shared meal with the family or friends. A thanksgiving offering, even before the Mosaic Laws were installed, was a pleasing aroma to the Lord. Noah offered a thanksgiving offering after the flood. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in His heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans (Genesis 8:21). Thanksgiving is not restricted to praising God after we receive a blessing. ‘Thank offerings’ presented in advance for blessings yet unseen, rise as sweet-smelling incense before the Lord.
The last day of the year is a special day for peace and fellowship offering of thanksgiving and praise. It is a good day to recount all that the Lord has done. Praise and worship captures the attention of heaven. “I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord” (Psalm 116:17). The gate to prayer is praise. Without praise we will be standing outside the tabernacle of God’s presence. Praise attracts the awesome presence of the Lord. Praise from a humble and contrite heart is the highest form of prayer.
Thank God for the opened doors, thank Him for the closed door and the prospective ones. Thank God for the promises that have been fulfilled verbatim and blessings that He has showered. God’s Word will never fail to those who faithfully hold on to them. Thank God for the answered prayers but also for the declined ones as His thoughts are much much much higher than ours and His ways are far more superior than ours. Pause today in gratitude for all that God has done in 2025, and wait expectantly before Him for His promises for 2026.
