17 January 2026 – Ladder of Faith – Part 3

Proverbs 27:25 When the hay is removed and new growth appears and the grass from the hills is gathered in.

Tender shoots need a lot of care. They must be shielded from the harsh sun, protected from heavy rain, wind and frost and guarded from pests. Likewise the seed of faith that has germinated into tender shoots must be protected from worry, weariness and the attacks of the wicked one.

‘New growth appearing when hay is removed’ is a beautiful metaphor of blooming faith. The hay of doubt, disbelief and disappointment must be removed to nurture faith. Faith germinates and grows when the moisture of God’s Word soaks our heart. However, this faith if left unprotected will be chocked by the thorns of “worries of life” and the “weariness of trials” (Luke 8:13-14).  The fierce wind of temptation will crush the tender shoots of faith if left unguarded and unprotected.

The third step in the Ladder of Faith is Tender Faith. If disappointment pushes us into depression then our faith is still tender. If the cares of life and concerns about children or career steals our sleep, our faith is still tender. If the fear of the future chocks us then our faith is still tender and needs a lot of tending and caring. As tender shoots that are protected by windbreaks, the shelter of the Almighty, the shadow of the Most High is our windbreak and our refuge.

Tender Faith:

  1. Worry: Worry is like the harsh sun on the tender shoots. Shield your faith under the shadow of God’s Word. Defeat worry with the Word and worship.
  2. Weary: Fatigue and weariness is like frost on tender shoots. As garden fleece protects tender shoots, stillness of the soul protects tender faith. Discipline the weary soul to be still.
  3. Windy: Doubt and disbelief are like strong winds that damage tender shoots. Retort the promises of God to Mr. devil when he comes with intimidations and insinuations about your family or your finances. The Word of God is enough evidence to shut the mouth of the demons that harass the tender shoots of faith. Shelter from windy attacks by abiding in the shadow of God’s Word.

Build a windbreak with the promises of God and protect tender faith.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I will remain under your shelter where there is no worry or weariness. Amen.
