23 January 2026 – The Blessed – Part 2

Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.

To be “blessed” means to live under the power, favour and goodness of God. Taking refuge in God encircles us in a divine fence. Taking refuge under the shelter and the shadow of the Almighty God is to come under divine protection. Only those who are under a threat of enemies take refuge. We move from a vulnerable place where we could be easily attacked, looted or bullied to a strong fortified fortress of God’s presence. Those who run into the refuge of the Most High God are blessed and covered by divine vigilance.

Tasting God’s goodness is a prerequisite to taking refuge in Him. Tasting His goodness simply means having communion, conversation and closeness with the Lord. Enjoying His nature and listening to His heartbeat will draw us into an intimate place of His refuge.

We enter this place of refuge through the gates of praise and will be surrounded by walls of salvation and security. No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise (Isaiah 60:18). Irrespective of the peril or problem we face, once we enter into the safe haven of God’s presence, there will be peace and divine protection. When the enemy comes against you like a flood, don’t seek the counsel of influential people or take asylum on the advice of friends but run into the presence of the Lord. Blessed is the man who has access to God’s safe refuge.

Take refuge in the Lord:

  1. Praise: We will have a flavour of God’s goodness only when we praise Him. The gate to ‘the Fortress of Refuge’ is praise. Praise helps us to recollect the past miracles and open the gate to the sanctuary.
  2. Peace: Jesus is the Prince of Peace. The enormity of the problem will not torment us or steal our sleep, when we take refuge in the Prince of Peace.
  3. Protection: The enemy can see us but cannot touch us once we enter God’s protective presence.

Don’t run to friends, google or ChatGPT – run to His presence.

Blessed is the man who dwells in God’s safe refuge.

Prayer: Father God, I will take refuge and will dwell in your presence always. Amen.
