Judges 7:9&11 During that night the Lord said to Gideon, “Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands…and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp.”
Gideon was left with three hundred men to attack the Midianites who were countless. These men were not soldiers with swords and shields. They were just chosen men with trumpets, torches and a clay jar! So, the Lord God instructed Gideon to go into the enemy’s camp with his servant Purah to eavesdrop the conversation between two Midianite soldiers. Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.” His friend responded, “This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite (vs 13-14).
Gideon had to attack the Midianites the next day with his meager resources. He was not able to sleep. To ease his stress the Lord took him into the enemy’s camp, gave him encouragement and assurance about his victory and strengthened him.
When you are tossing and turning in your bed worrying about something, don’t waste time engaging in vain imaginations. Go to your prayer closet and listen to your heart. The Lord will speak in a dream, in a vision or through a verse. Our victory is in the prayer closet when the enemy is asleep.
God wins our battles while we are asleep:
- Verse: The antidote to stress is God’s rhema Word. If you are pressured about anything, seek the Lord for His guidance. He will speak through a verse and strengthen the weary soul.
- Vision: God speaks and strengthens us through visions and dreams. “It is God who gives the ability to interpret dreams” (Genesis 40:8).
- Victory: Our victory is not in the battlefield but in our prayer closet on our knees. Gideon’s victory was not with 300 unarmed men, his victory was in his confidence in the Lord God Almighty. God fights our battle when the enemy is sleeping in overconfidence.
Overturn the enemy’s plans in your prayer closet.
Prayer: Victorious Father, speak to me through a verse or a vision about my victory. Amen.
