Psalm 112:6-8 Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
The spiritual heart is not the organ of the body that pumps blood. It is not a muscle but the core of our being. The spirit man is the residence of our faith. Our heart is the container that holds our belief system, culture and character. The heart of those who trust in the Lord is steadfast, secure and unshakable.
“The Righteous” are not perfect but have been perfected through the blood and the forgiveness of Christ Jesus. They are confident about their rights and responsibilities; position and powers; access and authority as a child of God. Their trust is in the Lord who is unshakable and immovable. Their trust is not in the words of man but in the omnipotence of God. When the mind is focused on the Lord our hearts will be steadfast on Him, in all situations. ‘Trust in the Lord’ defeats the spirit of fear and overcomes insecurity. You will not be afraid of sudden disaster, or when destruction overtakes the wicked (Proverbs 3:25). There is no fear of the future or of fiendish enemies, for the Lord God is our wall of protection.
Foreboding is a nuance of fear. When attacked by fearful qualms and restlessness in the soul, rush into your prayer closet and rebuke the spirit of fear. Don’t ignore it. Job said, “What I feared has come upon me” (Job 3:25). Fear is like a little fox that destroys blossoming flowers of faith. Guard your heart from insecurity and instability, fear, doubt and worry.
Steadfast, Secure and Serene Heart:
- Steadfast: Discipline your heart to trust in the Lord in all circumstances. Our God is bigger, mightier and greater than our greatest challenge and insurmountable mountains.
- Secure: Drive out fear and your heart will be secure. Insecurity is a vice. Don’t entertain it.
- Serene: A steadfast and secure heart has no fear. Our hearts will be serene and singing even in tumultuous situations.
Guard your heart from fear and forebodings.
Prayer: Father God, I will drive out fear as my heart is steadfast and secure, trusting in you. Amen.
