05 March 2026 – Power and Authority – Part 1

Matthew 28:18-19 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.

Jesus, in the Great Commission delegated and imparted His authority to the disciples and believers. The word “authority” is “exousia” in the original Greek which means the ultimate ruling power over a dominion or spear. So, the authority includes both the spiritual and earthly realms; both heavens and earth and everything and everyone in it. It encompasses angels, demons and heavenly beings and on the earth it includes all the created beings – humans, animals, birds, reptiles, sea creatures, nature, the mountains, wind, waves, seas and oceans, rulers, governments, policies and politicians. This authority has been delegated to you and to me who believe and obey the Lord Jesus Christ.

Authorities come with responsibilities. “And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well” (Mark 16:17-18). The authority is to preach the Gospel and make disciples, heal the sick, take dominion over demons, bind them and drive them out. To converse secrets with heaven in other tongues, to overturn the deadly ruse of the enemy and to set people free from bondage.

Learn, understand and operate in divine authority.

  1. Rights: We have the right over demons, sickness, curses and hell.
  2. Responsibilities: We are armed army officers of King Jesus. Our guideline to exercise authority is the Bible. However, if we violate the Word of God, the authority will be suspended until we are restored back to power through the blood. Just as an officer who misbehaves is suspended from duties, we will be temporarily paused from responsibilities if we misuse authority.
  3. Rulership: Jesus has restored our rights and rulership by defeating the devil and the diabolical forces on the cross. Rule and reign.

Jesus has delegated all authority to the obedient believers.

Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, enlighten me to the powers and the authority you have endowed and empowered on me.  Amen.
