Exodus 8:18-19 But when the magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, they could not. Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere, the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.”
The signature of God is in all His mighty works! A miracle is beyond human comprehension, reasoning or logical deliberation.
The Hebrew slaves were underdogs in Egypt for about 430 years. God sent Moses the deliverer to bring them out of slavery into the Promised Land that He had for them. However, the Pharaoh did not want to let go of his cheap labour hence resisted vehemently and refused to oblige to the request of Moses. Hence the finger of God brought about ten plagues on the Egyptians to break the hardened heart of the Pharaoh.
For the first two plagues the Egyptian sorcerers replicated the miracles of Moses through black magic. They could not reverse the plagues – they only replicated in retaliation. However, when the Lord brought gnats over all the Egyptians as the third plague, they threw in the towel and cried; “This is the finger of God.”. The two senior magicians mentioned in (2 Timothy 3:8) are Jannes and Jambres but extra-Biblical references state that there were several others who imitated the turning of rods into serpents and water into blood, but failed to produce gnats, acknowledging that it as the “finger of God”.
The Hebrew slaves were delivered from Egypt but left the fingerprints of God back in the land.
All it took was the little figure of God to crumble the magician. ‘If God be for us who can be against us?’
The signature of God is evident in His mighty works:
- Distinction: God will make a distinction between us and the people of the world who go after false religion and occultic practices. I will make a distinction between my people and your people (Exodus 8:23).
- Destruction: Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Those who practice witchcraft will fumble and fall before the Almighty God.
- Diadem: You are a royal diadem. No one can touch you.
All the powers of the Egyptians sorcerers and demons could not stand against the finger of God!
Prayer: Holy Father, no power, no dominion nor demon can stand against Your awesome splendour and might. Amen.
