Acts 13:22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’
There are very few heroes in the Bible with the credentials of God’s personal testimony about them. David stands out not only through his mighty deeds but also because the Lord God Himself bore witness of him. What made David God’s go-to man? – “A man after God’s own heart”? God removed the disobedient Saul from the throne and made David king over Israel simply because He could entrust position, power and prosperity to him. God was confident that David will remain obedient and will do everything that God wants him to do. What an amazing testimony!
Though many virtues were found in David, above all, he was a man who had unshakable trust in the Lord at all times. He did not put his trust in his strength or success. David repeats and reiterates throughout the psalms – “Blessed are those who put their trust in the Lord”. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God (Psalm 20:7). David did not just sing this psalm as a song but he practiced what he preached. After a great victory over Hadadezer, king of Zobah, he crippled all the horses except 100 to stand by what he believed and confessed. David seized from him 1,700 charioteers and 20,000 infantrymen. David cut the hamstrings of all but a hundred of the chariot horses (2 Samuel 8:4).
David did not put his trust in the powerful cavalry, chariots or his champions (David’s mighty men) but made the Lord his security, stronghold and strength. Hence, the Lord testified that David was His favorite – go-to man!
Become God’s “Go-to man/woman”:
- Hamstring: Hamstring anything that you hold as security in the place of the Almighty God. Do not put your trust in your job, bank balance or people.
- Hate: Hate what God hates – idolatry, injustice and insolence.
- Honour: Honour the Lord in all your success. Give God the glory for His abundant grace.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart to become God’s go-to man/woman.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, I will not trust in my strength/skill but in You and You alone. Amen.
