Psalm 121:5 The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand.
“Being overshadowed by God’s presence is to be enveloped in His presence, protection and power.”
Right hand symbolically is the place of authority. We will be overshadowed by God’s presence, protection and power when we give Him the Lordship over our life. God’s presence is always with us but only when we give Him the rulership and acknowledge Him as our King and Master His power will manifest in our lives.
Anyone who came under the shadow of the loving Saviour were enlightened and energized. The woman caught in adultery was thrown at the feet of Jesus. Under His shadow there was conviction, gentle correction and restoration. Overshadowed by the grace and mercy of God she was cleansed from her transgression and curses and was given a brand-new start. Similarly, the Samaritan woman, who was scorched by the heat of her shameful past, met Jesus at the well and was drawn into the shadow of redemption. Sin and stigma were subdued under the overshadowing presence of God.
The staff of Aaron that was left in the shelter of the tabernacle blossomed, budded and brought forth fruit in about 12 hours. The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds (Numbers 17:8). As Aaron’s dry rod that was overshadowed by God’s presence became fruitful, our dry and dead past will become like a prolific and productive garden. Under His shadow we will bear fruit that will last (John 15:5).
Overshadowed & Empowered:
- Exchanged: The adulteress went back forgiven, cleansed and restored. There was a divine exchange of the ashes of her past mistakes as she sheltered under the shadow of the Loving Saviour.
- Enlightened: Under the resurrected power of Christ Jesus, sins are forgiven, stigma is destroyed and shame dissipates. Silly stupor is exchanged with divine enlightenment.
- Empowered: Aaron’s dry staff that came alive did not wither. It was put back in the Ark of the Covenant as a sign of the resurrection of Jesus. Under His shadow we are empowered.
Overshadowed by the Almighty we will bear fruit that will last.
Prayer: Lord my God, I will run into your shelter to be overshadowed by your presence, power and protection. Amen.
