Psalm 128:3b “Your children will be like olive shoots around your table.”
Extraordinary longevity of the evergreen olive trees makes them incredibly special. The estimated life of olive trees is about 2000 years! They have an indestructible root system that can proliferate even if the tree above the ground is destroyed by fire, frost or fungus. Olive oil that is produced by crushing of the fruit is nutrition-dense, heart-healthy and is high in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants.
Children and our next generation are described as olive shoots, meaning they will be carriers of the Holy Spirit and anointing. Like olive trees that are evergreen, the children of a godly man/woman will carry the unquenchable anointing. Olive trees are extremely resilient and have regenerative power. The blessing that our children will be olive shoots is the description of their resilience to worldliness and regenerative anointing on them to carry the divine mantle and the message.
The blessing that follows a man/woman who walks in the fear of the Lord and in obedience to His Word is the fruitfulness of their biological and spiritual posterity. Olive shoots grow from the base of the tree, drawing nutrients from it; likewise, the generations of a God-fearing man/woman flourish in the anointing oil. “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the LORD (Isaiah 59:21).
The worship anointing oil of David kept his lamp burning through generations until Jesus, the Light of the world, was born through his lineage. (2 Chronicles 21:7).
Fruitful olive shoots:
- Press: Before the olive fruit is crushed and pressed for oil, they are washed, cleaned and graded. The prayer life of a godly parent will initiate the pressing process that produces the anointing oil in the next generation.
- Produce: As pruning produces healthy fruit, fasting and prayer produce a lasting oil of anointing.
- Proliferate: A praying mother/father/granddad/grandma is the indestructible root-system that continues to proliferate the anointing oil even after they exit the earth.
Persistent prayer life increases the oil of anointing.
Prayer: Father Divine, make me a healthy olive tree that propagates olive shoots. Amen.
