25 June 2026 – Wrong Questions – Part 1

Deuteronomy 6:16 Do not put the LORD your God to the test as you did at Massah.

Asking the right questions is not just a communication skill but a “thinking advantage” that deepens understanding and improves decision making. If the head is thinking in the right direction, our lips will resound with wise questions. The mind directs the words of our mouth. On the other hand, futile thinking and corrupt ruminations will result in wrong questions and sink us into the sinking sand of doubt and despondency. Hence developing the art of thinking right is absolutely essential for growth and progress.

Questions that put the Lord’s Word and His promises to test are silly and wrong questions. The questions that flood our mind during a crisis and the words we spit out in a challenge will make or break our case before the Lord.

Israel had just crossed the Red Sea and they had camped at a place called Rephidim. There was water scarcity and immediately the people bombarded Moses with the wrong questions of doubt and disbelief.  “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?” (Exodus 17:3). They did not call for a fasting and prayer but were infuriated with Moses and quarreled against God and the man of God.

The tests and trials that come our way must help us to grow in faith and be rooted in the understanding of God’s irrefutable love. The tests are to measure our ability to trust Him and not a measure of His ability to bless us. Asking God to prove His Word is the wrong question and incorrect prayer. So, trust God and don’t test Him.

Trust don’t Test:

  1. Quarrel: The test is to prove our perseverance in Him and fervency to trust His Word. Quarrelling prayers such as, “Why Lord”? “Prove that You are with me”! will derail us from our faith journey.
  2. Quintessential: In every season, the goodness of God remains quintessential – don’t test His faithfulness or His Word.
  3. Questions: Assess the thoughts before speaking it out. Right questions are a thinking advantage that help us to make the right decision.

Tests measure our ability to trust God, not God’s ability to bless us.”

Prayer: Dearest Holy Spirit, guide the thoughts of my heart and mind to ask the right questions. Amen.
