Luke 1:18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”
Asking the right questions is a niche skillset that is incredibly important for growth and progress. Right questions bring clarity but wrong questions add to the confusion. Right questions shape our perspective but wrong ones destroy the vision. Right questions reveal the truth but wrong questions fudge deception. Right questions make us wise but foolish ones fester silly stupors.
Miracles cannot be elucidated with scientific explanations. By faith we believe that we are justified from our sins and curses. This cannot be logically understood but must be received in faith. We are/were healed by the wounds of Jesus – This cannot be medically rationalized. Medical mistakes and impossibilities are healed by the resurrected power of Christ Jesus. Scientific questions, to understand scriptures, will only cause confusion.
The Archangel Gabriel appeared to the priest Zachariah while he was serving in the temple of the Lord. Gabriel came with good tidings to Zachariah about the miraculous birth of his son John, the forerunner of Jesus. Zachariah could not process the promise as his logical thinking kicked in. The couple was advanced in age, presumably way past child bearing age, and yet the angel said that they were going to have a baby! Gabriel also said, “your prayer has been heard” (vs 13). Zachariah did not have faith that his prayers would be answered and he retorted wrong questions to the Archangel Gabriel. Since life and death are in the power of our tongue, the Angel Gabriel muted the mouth of Zachariah for 9 months until the promised child was born. Wrong questions quench the favour of God and extinguish the fire of faith. Logical questions cannot decipher the love and grace of God.
Ask questions that will enrich you spiritually and not impoverish the soul.
Logic vs Love:
- Love: The love of God showers us with grace that is beyond the understanding of the human brain.
- Learn: Our questions should help us to learn and delve deeper into the nature of God.
- Leverage: Our questions should leverage us into the next level of maturity.
“Ask questions that will enlarge your insight and not shrink your faith.”
Prayer: God of Grace, teach me your ways that I may rely on your faithfulness. Amen.
