27 June 2026 – Wrong Questions – Part 3

Judges 6:13 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.”

Questions of doubt will lead to disbelief. Doubt is the fearful deliberation of the mind, but disbelief is when fear takes hold of the heart. Asking the wrong questions sink the doubts as disbelief from the mind to the heart. Wrong questions can cultivate disbelief as a stronghold in the heart. “Words unspoken die unborn”. Be careful not to voice out every thought that strikes your mind.

Gideon was born and raised in a time of political chaos, emotional instability and spiritual dryness. Israel had forgotten the Lord God who delivered them from slavery, oppression and bondage and started serving other gods. By wayward sinful choices they had sold themselves into the same slavery that the Lord had brought them from, yet they had no spiritual sensitivity nor sin consciousness. They had neglected the Law of the Lord that Moses had left for them. Gideon was ignorant of the scriptures hence he asked silly questions to the angel who visited him.

He asked two questions – “why is this happening?” and “where are the wonders of the past that our grandparents and great grandparents spoke about?” Gideon was born about 3 or 4 generations after the death of Joshua. He had heard about the great deliverance and the mighty works of God but he was ignorant about Deuteronomy 28:15 “The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven, and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth”. He was not aware that their waywardness had sold them into captivity.

Wrong questions sunk Gidoen in doubt and disbelief.

Doubtful Questions:

  1. Unbelief: Wrong questions grip the heart with unbelief.
  2. Unborn: Put a bridle on the mouth and stop doubtful thoughts from flowing to the tongue.
  3. Unnecessary: Avoid unwholesome, unwanted and unnecessary blabbering. Disbelief steals blessings.

Words unspoken die unborn.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to have a tight leash over my mind and mouth. Amen.
