Mark 16:3 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb. They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?
Anxious questions magnify fear, create mental exhaustion, weakens our faith and confidence and distorts perspectives. Anxiety can increase stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, causing stress, increase in heartbeat, insomnia, and difficulty in concentration. Anxious questions will result in brain fog and force us into poor decisions.
The women who went to the tomb of Jesus with spices to embalm the body were nervous about the large stone that was at the entrance of the tomb. With no manpower they still proceeded to the tomb. They might have probably thought they would request a gardener or a passerby to help them. All their anxiety turned into worry when they saw the stone was rolled away and the body of Jesus was missing. Stress and anxiety blotted the words of Jesus that He will rise up from the dead on the third day. “They will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.” (Luke 18:22). The men were trembling in fear and the women were mourning in sorrow. The anxious and anguished women experienced a brain fog and completely overlooked the promise of Jesus about His resurrection.
85% of the things that we worry about never happen. We waste our time, resources and experiences worrying about what might happen rather than cherishing the moment. Most times, the issue we worry about doesn’t even exist or even if it does our risen Saviour already has a solution. So, why worry when you can pray and rest. Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray (James 5:13a). Don’t waste a troubling thought – turn it into a testimony. Pray instead of drowning yourself in anxious questions and dread.
Anxious Questions:
- Resource: Anxious questions will force us into wrong decisions and misuse our time, talents and resources.
- Reset: Anguish blocks the vision of our future, lowers our expectations and resets our goals.
- Rest: Choose to rest on God’s promises rather than resorting to worry and stress.
“Anxious questions result in brain fog and forces us into wrong decisions.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I surrender all my anxious thoughts and questions at your feet. Amen.
