Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
A W Tozer, an influential American pastor, author, and theologian of the 20th century said, “God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which He must work. Only to know this is to quiet our spirits and relax our nerves”. To understand our time and seasons will set us free from anxiety and anger; fear and frustration. The heroes of the Bible who understood the season and the need of the hour were able to fight the good fight and overcome.
The sons of Issachar had discernment, foresight and insight into the spiritual, social and political times and seasons. From the tribe of Issachar, there were 200 leaders of the tribe with their relatives. All these men understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take (1 Chronicles 12:32). These men supported King David and the kingdom of Israel to make right decisions and to operate with discretion and discernment. The wisdom was more valuable than tens of thousands of horses and chariots. They were able to understand the shift in political and spiritual season from the rulership of Saul to the leadership of David and imparted spiritual insight, cultural intelligence and political direction.
God operates in seasons. So, when He moves you out of assignments or associations, understand the change and embrace the new season. Our prayers and petitions will be powerful when we understand God’s times and seasons. Paul writes to the church at Colosse, “We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives” (Colossians 1:9). The Holy Spirit fills those who seek Him with all wisdom and spiritual understanding to do God’s will. Make Colossian 1:9 your daily prayer.
Times and Seasons:
- Discernment: Seeking the Lord in fasting and prayer sharpens our understanding, perception and judgment.
- Discretion: Wisdom gives us the discretion to understand the change of seasons and new assignments.
- Direction: Those who walk in spiritual wisdom will not miss God’s direction.
Desire discernment, foresight and insight.
Prayer: Father of Lights, fill me with wisdom and the knowledge of the times and seasons. Amen.
