One of the best quotes of John C Maxwell on leadership is “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” The success of a team is directly tied to the competence, confidence and the character of a leader. The leader sets the culture and momentum of growth in any organization. A leader with a clear vision would take his team to the desired destination. It will be a pleasure to work with a Visionary Leader who is energized with passion and purpose. People would put their trust in a visionary leader.
Nehemiah was a visionary leader. He had a purpose, a clear plan and the potential to accomplish it. Nehemiah came to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls that were ruined by disobedience. The Babylonians had burnt the walls down and ransacked the homes and streets. The magnificent temple was in ruins. The remnant who lived in Jerusalem had no protection and were exposed to the intruders. A man who had a well-paid, influential and comfortable job in the king’s palace in Susa, the Persian capital, was moved with a burden to go back to Jerusalem and rebuild the walls.
He gave a proposal to the king which was accepted, then, he drafted a clear plan, mobilized provision and people and then got into action. The people supported the visionary leader and completed the task in 52 days. A notable and commendable character of Nehemiah was that he did not let the threats discourage him nor did he allow the distractions to slow him down. The laborers carried on their work with one hand supporting their load and one hand holding a weapon (Nehemiah 4:17). A visionary leader has his eyes fixated on the vision. Be a visionary.
Visionary Leader:
- Character: Vision without character is dangerous; vision backed by character is unstoppable.
- Competence: A Visionary leader mobilizes the competence to complete the job.
- Culture: A Visionary Leader sets a growth culture in momentum that would inculcate pride and responsibility in the team players.
Without vision people perish but with a clear vision people flourish.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me a clear vision for my life, my family, ministry and career. Amen.
