2 Chronicles 15:9 Then Asa assembled all Judah and Benjamin and the people from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who had settled among them, for large numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
Reformative leaders “change the change and challenge the challenge”. They are not intimidated by changes and challenges but take the adversity as an opportunity. Reformative leaders inspire their followers, shift culture and see potential in the problem. Reformation attracts rewards and recognitions.
King Asa, the King of Judah was a reformative leader. He eradicated idolatry by destroying the pagan altars. He even deposed his grandmother Maacah, and stripped her position as “queen mother”, as she had made a despicable image of Asherah. He repaired and brought into the temple of the Lord the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated. Asa purged the kingdom of idolatry and detestable practices which unified the kingdom. His love for the Lord and dedication to follow the Lord attracted a large number of people as his ardent admirers and followers.
People follow leaders who bring a positive impact in the culture and the quality of life. Asa devoted himself to follow the Lord and do what was right in his sight which resulted in a vibrant reformation in the culture and community. Reformation is behavioral change. However, reformative change is possible only as the result of a change in character. Asa was able to cleanse the country as his heart and his desires were devoted to serve the Lord. The dedication of one man reformed the nation (1 Chronicles 15:15).
Don’t let adversity change you adversely. Don’t let the bad behaviour of others lower your standards. Be the bigger person and outwit their poor reactions with your noble response. Challenge every challenge with an optimistic response.
Reformative Leaders:
- Character: Character changes result in the reformative changes. You cannot fix the outside without cleansing the insides.
- Culture: Cultural changes happen when the desires and thoughts are reformed and renewed. New ways of thinking will reform the culture and ethos.
- Community: Asa’s commitment to serve the Lord purged idolatry from the nation.
Reformation starts in the heart and not in the hand.
Prayer: God my Jehovah, help me to inspire and impact the community with godly reformative changes. Amen.
