17 October 2026 – Eagle’s Wings – Part 3

Romans 8:5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

Eagles are often described as birds that “think differently” to other birds. What distinguishes them is their remarkable combination of vision, intelligence, instincts, and behaviour. Eagles use the environment rather than constantly fighting against it. Those who are Spirit-led think, behave and respond differently to a carnal man.

Migratory and coastal birds caught in severe storms and powerful winds can be blown thousands of miles away from their natural habitat.Strong gusts can cause severe exhaustion and permanent or fatal physical injury. Hence, birds flee and take refuge against ghastly winds. However, eagles don’t waste the kinetic energy of moving air but rather use it like an escalator to move swiftly to greater heights. When storm clouds gather, the eagles jump onto it like an elevator and zoom through thousands of feet.

David had an eagle mentality. He behaved like an eagle while the army of King Saul was cowering like chicks. He was bold to plunge right into the battle. He used the battle at Elah to jump on to the escalator to move swiftly from an ordinary shepherd boy into the king’s palace as the Commander-in-Chief. David enquired about the reward announced by the king to the one who would slay the giant. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel (1 Samuel 17:25). David understood that he could become an overnight millionaire, the king’s son-in-law and tax-free if he raced into the heat of the battle.

Use the present environment that you are in as an escalator to soar higher.

Calm in the Storm:

  1. Environment: Don’t waste the environment you are in.  Grow through the challenge. Exercise God’s Word to overcome illness, distress and regress.
  2. Energy: Don’t waste the kinetic energy that the storm generates. Use the energy to generate the momentum to move higher.
  3. Elevate: Don’t sit back when you can soar.

Behave like an eagle in the storm.

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to use the storms of life as an escalator to grow and soar higher. Amen.
