Ephesians 1:18I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.
Eagles have exceptionally powerful eyesight. They can see 4 to 5 times farther than humans under good conditions. Though heavy rain, fog, cloud, and strong winds can obstruct their vision just as they block human vision, eagles don’t fight the storm in low altitude. They can use rising air currents to climb above the turbulent storm cloud layer where they regain a much clearer view of the landscape below.
This is a powerful analogy to remind us that when we fly low, we will be caught in the confusion of the crucible circumstance. Learn to mount up on eagles’ wings and fly above the turbulent cloud layer and soar about the storm. Our wings of faith carry us above the tempestuous trial whereas fear will drown us in the treacherous turpitude.
When darkness clouds your path don’t go down, climb up like the eagle. The physical visibility might be limited for the eagle but it uses its instinctive and learnt flight behaviour to dive into the updraft that gives it the lift. Similarly, our spiritual instinct must be to praise, pray and penetrate through the darkness and take refuge of God’s serenity in the storm. It is through gloomy gales that we understand the glorious promises and inheritance that we have in Christ Jesus.
Learn the flight behaviour of an eagle to fly through and above the ghastly gust.
Calm in the Storm:
- Praise: Praise is the thrust that gives us the lift above the windstorm. Press past the disappointment and discouragement and praise to soar above the storm.
- Pray: Pray in the spirit at all times. Pray when you cannot understand the purpose of the test. Pray when life is tough and P U S H – pray until something happens.
- Penetrate: Penetrate through the darkness of doubt, disbelief and distress by pedaling on God’s Word. Read, ruminate and repeat the promises until the distrust disappears. Penetrate through the storm clouds to soar above the storm.
Learn flight behaviour to fly above the storm.
Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to beat the ghastly winds of doubt, discouragement and dissolution and soar above the storm. Amen.
