James 2:23 “Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness,” and “he was called the friend of God.”
To have a celebrity who is widely known, highly influential and fondly admired would be a special privilege. To have a personal connection with them beyond their public image would be very advantageous. But the fame and name of great achievers will fade away with time. Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing (Proverbs 11:7). However, friendship with the Lord God, our Eternal Rock, is the most incredible privilege we can ever enjoy.
Abraham was called a friend of God. The secret to his friendship with God of the heavens and the earth was simple childlike faith and trust in the Lord. Abraham just took God at His word. No questions asked –No doubts, no deliberations and no disbeliefs. He just believed. Faith is believing who God is and what God has said, even when you cannot yet see it. However, trust goes a bit further. Trust is leaning on God’s promises and enjoying peace and joy while waiting on God to fulfil His Word.
At God’s Word, Abraham packed his bags and left his homeland, venturing into the unknown by faith. He was from a heathen family-line and pagan belief. The Lord God spoke to him while he was living in the land of Mesopotamia and told him to leave his country, relatives, and father’s household and go to a land God would show him. Abraham discerned the voice of the Living God and distinguished it from the ritualistic worship of idols. He put his trust on the unknown and unseen God. His unswerving faith pleased the heart of God. Hence, he became a friend of God.
Do you want to become the friend of God? A friend of a celebrity has access not only to the public platform but to the private chamber. Likewise, a friend of God has access to the secrets of God.
We will be called the friend of God if:
- Intimate: We long for intimacy with Him.
- Insight: We desire insight into the hidden secrets of His Word.
- Incredible: We admire His incredible power and might.
Unshakable trust makes us God’s friends.
Prayer: Dearest Lord Jesus, I want to share a close intimate friendship with You. Amen.
