Genesis 18:16-17 Then the men set out from there, and they looked down toward Sodom. And Abraham went with them to set them on their way. Then the LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?”
Best friends share their plans, exchange ideas, and deliberate together over important decisions. A faithful friend who is wise and integrous is more precious than gold.
The Lord paid a visit to the tents of His friend Abraham in Genesis 18. As soon as Abraham saw the visitors, he welcomed them and hastened to prepare a meal for them. He got Sarah to bake bread with the finest flour and he himself ran into the herd and selected a choice tender calf and gave it to his servants to prepare. He then set a feast for the Lord to rest and dine with him. Abraham had 318 fighting men and other servants who served him yet he ran personally into the herd to select the best tender calf to serve the Lord and the angels who were at his doorstep.
Abraham cherished and enjoyed the Lord’s visit. He willingly received and served them. Abraham made room for the Lord to share the purpose of His visit. The Lord had come down to pronounce judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah, the vile cities that were steeped in sexual immorality, violence and conceit. But before the Lord raised His righteous hand to destroy these cities, He made an intentional visit to Abraham and disclosed His plan. The Lord spoke to Himself saying, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?”.
When we learn to cherish listening, learning and living for the Lord, we will become the Lord’s best friends too. Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets (Amos 3:7). When we make room for the Lord to talk to us by our regular prayer pattern, He will come down to discuss His plans with us.
God’s Best Friends:
- Listen: About 80% of our prayer time must be listening and not talking.
- Learn: We must always be willing to learn, change and correct.
- Live: We must be passionate and be unashamed to proclaim our integrity to the Lord.
Best Friends get to know the plan of God.
Prayer: Dearest Father, I want to become your best friend. Amen.
